“The Lost One”
I don’t think there’s too many surprises offered by Virgin Road in its second week. New introductions were had; key expectations were confirmed; and potential antagonists were revealed. Oh and Momo reaffirms why you don’t ever go for pink-haired crazy. It might be appealing on the surface, but you never know when that poison will start acting.
Given Virgin Road’s premise of isekai’d kids doing wrong through incredible powers and needing to die, it was natural the main conundrum (at least the for the moment) will be Menou coming across one who . Akari’s possession of veritable time reversal means anything and everything which could affect her likely won’t, and that whatever does needs her unknowing of its actions to properly implement. Not hard guessing for one that the talk of a chamber capable of killing these kids might wind up proving anything but, as any overt suggestion of such things is naturally accompanied by an exception (or three) to the rule no one saw coming – and as we’ve seen Akari is certainly a prime exception.
Also lending support to the idea of in and out 20 minute travels leading to more prolonged adventures is Menou’s state of mind. This too shouldn’t prove that shocking: besides the obvious for Menou there’s also the fact the girl runs counter to what’s expected from Lost Ones. As Menou remarked Akari hasn’t committed any crimes, hasn’t shown any desire to do harm, she’s a good-natured girl who definitely has desires to take what was and turn it into a better isekai one. Such personality can quickly lead to doubts, about whether the individual could ever become bad, if they can be taught to control their power or have it contained. Menou isn’t currently voicing these thoughts but they are something she’s trying to , a subconscious realization that admitting them will lead to questioning of her role as executioner and the impact of Lost Ones on her world. After all, if Lost Ones were important enough to provide everything from food to transportation, what’s to say Akari couldn’t have the same positive impact if allowed to live?
Figuring out the answer to that question is a task Menou will soon get, whether she wants it or not.
